BCCI and T-20 - A bad influence on international cricket (Volume 1)

I started writing this post a month back - but because of my final term I couldn't complete it. Since this post will address two very important issues that are damaging international cricket, I have decided to divide this post into two volumes just to keep the focus intact on both the issues.
Being a cricket fan the last thing I wanted to witness was people losing their faith in the cricket's biggest event i.e. World Cup.

Board of control for cricket in India, widely known as BCCI, is definitely a bad influence on international cricket. It won't be wrong for me to say that 'BCCI is to ICC' as 'America is to Afghanistan'. As India is by far the largest revenue generating source for international cricket, BCCI holds power to influence ICC in their decision making process.

In India, their exists a billion dollar betting industry where bookmakers make their utmost effort to keep things favourable for them; readers - this is the prime reason for match fixing, spot fixing or any other sort of fixing in the world of sports.

I am amazed to see such cold response with India winning the world cup. There is a strange silence over this victory. Emotions are running low - losers are content and winners are not overjoyed. It looked like a good Bollywood script - with Taran Adarsh's reviews leaking the climax before the movie got released.

I don't know if this world cup was fixed or not but if 98% of people believes it was fixed than I must say ICC and BCCI are losing their credibility and International cricket and ICC events are losing its loyalty.

Everyone knows that it is difficult for ICC to say no to BCCI's demands; there can always be a possibility that BCCI demanded the world cup winning trophy for next 4 years.

Real story behind this world cup is a mystery and it will remain a mystery but there's one thing quite clear that world doesn't see money spinning BCCI as a clean cricket board. The easiest way to promote cricket is to make India win and grab the attention of 1.2 billion people.

Maybe I am not 100% correct and maybe BCCI is a clean cricket board but what difference does it make if majority of cricket fans think like me? If everyone starts believing that cricket is fixed only because BCCI is misusing their powerful status, even though they are not true; it's not helping the game.

Another thing that is hurting international cricket real badly is the excessive t-20 cricket which I will be discussing in the next volume.

Note: Please chip in your valuable comments and share your views on my point of view!

  1. 'BCCI is to ICC' as 'America is to Afghanistan'????
DUDE as America is to the "world"

"98% of people believes it was fixed"
Then cricket is essentially a lost cause

BCCI took sometime before they let Australia loosen their grip on the trophy...I think they won fair and square(cuz if if it was fixed then Mr. Clean Afridi is more dirty than Mr. Salman Butt)....it was champion stuff where they looked comfortable to do it without really looking ruthless....As far as the sentiments go the fact that only rare Indian News channels can be found today(not the case in say 2007) is the reason u dont see much wohoos abt it

As far as superpower BCCI goes somebody ultimately is mighty. thats how its always been. Take ur pick of sports.Easy sanctions dont represent much substantial. Denying you world cup hosting should hv meant that u wouldnt set foot in INDIA which u did.

As far as fixing goes PCB didnt follow up on there player issue so why should BCCI be bothered. ICC started its investigation PCB didnt care....in india case it doesnt implies BCCI cares

  2. The issue is not if India won it 'fair and square'. The issue is how people look at this victory! BCCI has a negative image and such image shall not be associated with the game of cricket. It's not good for the game!

  3. Well yes but all systems, model and probably sports as well are designed so someone does eventually end up having power

PCB has a way more negative image on comparison with BCCI. All BCCI has done is have some favorable calls on questionable issues(UDRS)(Pradeep Agarwal) whilst PCB looked to zip it on unfavorable issues(fancy fixing)(Zulqarnain)

  4. PCB is a combination of incompetency and ill-powered. Honestly speaking, PCB is way too small to impact international cricket.

You cannot make a state crime-free by killing all the street thieves. Its a 'cause and affect'. In this case PCB or Pakistani players involved in fixing are street thieves or affect. I am more into finding out the real CAUSE and not the affects!

Its "EFFECT"(affect is the verb) and yes u identified the right cause something not denied by Indians as well
